The Scientific Research Laboratory of the UE has begun its activity in November 2000. It is situated inside the area of the ex metallurgical combine of Elbasan. It has a surface area of 4500 m2 , where 1700 m2 of them are buildings. The main scope of work in this laboratory is performing the analysis on steels, minerals, limestone, fuels, lubrificant oils, cement and other materials used in construction. According to the analysis performed, the work in the laboratory is divided in three sections: I. Chemical Section. II. Physics and Mechanic Section. III. Section for the Sample Production. I. Chemical Section. In this Section are available necessary equipments (mainly produced in the 1970s) and environment in order to carry out chemical analysis with classical methods of: a. Carbonated Steels. b. Limestone, coke, argil, iron alloys, quartz, etc. c. Fuels (the density and glow point is determinate). Available instruments are: Name Type Year of production Pieces Muffle Furnace SRJX – 4 – 13 1973 2 Thermostat 101 - 1 1973 3 Analytical Balance FANOG 1973 1 II. Physics and Mechanic Section. This is the most well equipped section, where experiments on recoil, inflection, press and collision of the steel ingot for Φ from 6 – 40 mm can be performed, as well as experiments in press of beton of varying make.
